1624 年荷蘭人來到了台灣的安平，遇到了平地的西拉雅族，問了地名Tayoan(大員）後稱Taiwan台灣。
西拉雅語的人叫做Tau,
船叫做Avan.
台灣有可能就是Tauavan,
船人，橫跨太平洋和印度洋。
南島語的名詞在前，形容詞在後。
Taiwan
When the Dutch came to Taiwan in 1624, they asked the indigenous Siraya people where they were. Tayoan was the reply. In the Siraya language, people are called Tau, and canoe is called Avan.
Taiwan could mean people of the canoe that populated the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
