As we reimagine cities, bamboo may be the vent toward a more sustainable future.
The 2018 International Forum on Weather-Resistant Bamboo Architecture brought together architects, designers, scholars, and cultural practitioners to explore the future of hot cities and the modern potential of bamboo.
Day one focused on contemporary applications: Gan Ming-Yuan and Lee Lü-Chih spoke on community sustainability, Effan Adhiwira shared Bali’s curvilinear designs, Erwin Viray highlighted bamboo’s low-carbon potential, and Markus Roselieb presented on Chiang Mai. A roundtable followed on technical futures.
Day two featured Kuan Hua-Shan, Terunobu Fujimori, Laha Mebow, and Varig Tinaway in a cross-cultural dialogue on Indigenous and Austronesian bamboo architecture.
More than a technical forum, it became a platform for reimagining bamboo as a language of future architecture and island living.
